ZWELETHU MTHETHWA'S OPENING @ iART ///THE FOLLOWING EVENTS TOOK PLACE BETWEEN 19H00 AND 20H00 ON WEDNESDAY THE 18TH OF MAY

Tonight I went to check out Zwelethu Mthethwa's (he is the guy in the last pic above, in case you're ignorant) exhibition opening at iArt gallery. Now skattie this is kind of a big deal, because as per the press release "For the first time on the continent of Africa, new photographic works will be exhibited by Zwelethu Mthethwa, one of South Africa’s most influential contemporary artists". It was kind of special for me too because Zwelethu's name is one of the few artist names i knew way before i started raiding exhibition openings for free wine. So ja i had fun, the only irritation was the presence of a car guard when i got to my car. see i don't like the car guard profession much, and i often wonder about their importance and effectiveness when it comes to the actual guarding of cars, they always seem to be staring in the opposite direction and yet manage to pop up at my window just as i turn my car on. Yes skattie i know that those of us who are doing slightly better should be ready to give to the less fortunate, besides five rands means a whole more to them that it means to me, especially with our high unemployment rates. So i should be willing to give it away freely, right? Yet i feel so annoyed when they pop up out of nowhere to instruct me on the finer points of parallel parking. For fuck's sake i've got a license and i paid good money for it, very good actually. I know how to fucking parallel park,  sorry but it's not like they own that little bit of parking property either. I pay tax too, that should allow me the freedom to park safely in a designated public parking space without having to part with yet another five of my hard-earned rands. Ag maybe i'm not getting something, but i also feeling incredibly guilty if i don't pay them or if i give less than five rand, what with the bleeding heart liberals who pay them strictly in notes, which is good thing i guess. Whatevs.
Anyway it's kinda cool to see the napoleonic type vibe finally catching on in jackets, it's taken us a while. In fact it's kind of dead already, sharing a grave with the boyfriend jacket, but it's still really nice to look at, much like the boyfriend jacket.
