FRIDAY NIGHT IN 2 PARTS /// DAVID WEST WINTER RANGE LAUNCH

PART 2 /// LATER THAT NIGHT AT THE YOUMEANDEVERYONEWEKNOW MARKET AND EVEN LATER AT A NIKE SHOE LAUNCH

Hello skat, i hope you've had a semi-decent week, if not don't worry too much about it you can try again next week. As for me i'm a bit drained, my fear of missing out has dragged me out till late for four consecutive nights, by last night i was struggling to maintain a cohesive conversation, by the end of the night i was feeling rather sorry for myself and i was confessing to  my friend Carine my plans to get schedule 6 subscription appetite suppressants next week. I once lost 15kgs in two months on Duromine, never mind that i gained 20kgs as soon as i stopped taking them, it'll be different this time. Anyway, as soon as i'm done with this post i'm grabbing a DVD and a duvet, i'm gonna maintain a horizontal position for as long as i can before the fear drives me out again. Last night i went to check out David West's Winter range launch which was also the closing down party of Weekend Special, his shop in Woodstock. Worry not skat, he is not closing doors, his work is available at his new shinier shop on Long street right in middle of the city. The evening made me wish i knew how to use a camera properly, because the shop is kind of bright so if one does not know how to operate camera settings everything starts to look overexposed and detail gets lost, which is a pity because there is such beautiful detail on his creations. Know-it-all that you are (no, not you skat), i'm sure you've already spotted all the badly shot pics. Ja, I probably should go on one of those short courses that are turning everybody who can afford a digital SLR into a photographer.

OPENING OF LIAM MOONEY'S SHOWROOM ///DRY GOODS

I've got the flu so i should have stayed at home, in fact i should have done that the two previous evenings, but each evening i keep running out due to my terrible fear of missing out, and tonight i really couldn't miss out on the opening of my friend Liam Mooney's new showroom 'Dry Goods'. He really does design such beautiful furniture, if my word is not enough for you please do check out his site. I'm also trying to get back to my old habit of posting on the same night as the event while the wine still runs though my veins, but it's taking it's toll, i have a day job too you know. But it's a fun life so i must stop whining, and I must thank my friend Marco for taking some of the pics tonight, i really only had enough energy left to lift my glass from bar to mouth. But i'm so glad i went, maybe tomorrow i stay home and prepare my kittens for the championship on Saturday. Fuck, can't wait to skattie that, it's gon be a trip. in Edgemead nogal.

ZWELETHU MTHETHWA'S OPENING @ iART ///THE FOLLOWING EVENTS TOOK PLACE BETWEEN 19H00 AND 20H00 ON WEDNESDAY THE 18TH OF MAY

Tonight I went to check out Zwelethu Mthethwa's (he is the guy in the last pic above, in case you're ignorant) exhibition opening at iArt gallery. Now skattie this is kind of a big deal, because as per the press release "For the first time on the continent of Africa, new photographic works will be exhibited by Zwelethu Mthethwa, one of South Africa’s most influential contemporary artists". It was kind of special for me too because Zwelethu's name is one of the few artist names i knew way before i started raiding exhibition openings for free wine. So ja i had fun, the only irritation was the presence of a car guard when i got to my car. see i don't like the car guard profession much, and i often wonder about their importance and effectiveness when it comes to the actual guarding of cars, they always seem to be staring in the opposite direction and yet manage to pop up at my window just as i turn my car on. Yes skattie i know that those of us who are doing slightly better should be ready to give to the less fortunate, besides five rands means a whole more to them that it means to me, especially with our high unemployment rates. So i should be willing to give it away freely, right? Yet i feel so annoyed when they pop up out of nowhere to instruct me on the finer points of parallel parking. For fuck's sake i've got a license and i paid good money for it, very good actually. I know how to fucking parallel park,  sorry but it's not like they own that little bit of parking property either. I pay tax too, that should allow me the freedom to park safely in a designated public parking space without having to part with yet another five of my hard-earned rands. Ag maybe i'm not getting something, but i also feeling incredibly guilty if i don't pay them or if i give less than five rand, what with the bleeding heart liberals who pay them strictly in notes, which is good thing i guess. Whatevs.
Anyway it's kinda cool to see the napoleonic type vibe finally catching on in jackets, it's taken us a while. In fact it's kind of dead already, sharing a grave with the boyfriend jacket, but it's still really nice to look at, much like the boyfriend jacket.
