WEDNESDAY AT TAKE CARE & ADRIAAN KUITERS x JODY PAULSEN A/W 2014 LAUNCH PARTY

Hello my N-words and my B-words, it's been such a fucking awesome week, starting on Wednesday when I went up to Kloof Street to check out this launch at no. 73, the home of Take Care and Adriaan Kuiters. Just to make sure we're all up to speed; for the last couple of seasons artist Jody Paulsen has joined the Adriaan Kuiters label, working together on collaborative ranges, designing the prints and involved in silhouette design as well, making the brand one of the more interesting labels out right now. In case you're not familiar with his work, check this post i did on his graduate show last year, no really go, it is fucking amazing. So amazing that we put it on the cover of Visi magazine (that would be the decor and architecture magazine I work with) earlier this year.

On Thursday, there were a couple of art openings which were really amazing. Then on Friday I found myself around a dinner table with Jochen Zeitz and Thomas Heatherwick, I don't normally namedrop, but some people have done such amazing shit with their lives that their names deserve to be dropped, like seriously, no shame in my game. So the week in general was such a fucking treat, what more can an art fag ask for? Anyway, I'm gonna post the pics from the Thursday exhibitions up for Monday, be sure to come back and check them out. For now, enjoy these pretty young thangs and envy them their champagne (read sparkling wine) set lives.

IN FOREIGN TRANSIT /// MAX MOGALE, JADE DE WAAL AND DEWALD BRAND DO INDIA

Continuing with the friendship theme from my previous post, I'm quite excited to share this video. Two dear friends of mine, chef & jazz musician Jade De Waal (some of you will remember her as Masterchef contestant and cookbook author), photographer Max Mogale (you might know him from Vuzu's Creative Unions and the internets in general), and videographer Dewald Brand have embarked on a 3 week trip to three Indian cities.

The project, which they're calling 'In Foreign Transit' will be regularly updated with images, videos and writing on their website and facebook page. At the end of the of the project Dewald will produce a 28-45 minute documentary on the trip, Max will produce photographic exhibition of images from the trip, and Jade a cookbook containing tips and tricks.

I am so happy for them and totally jealous at the same time. The trip looks fucking amazing. Check out these short videos below of their first couple of days in India. You can also like their facebook page here, follow their instagram here (@in_foreign_transit), and check out the website for regular blog updates here.

MOMENTS AMONGST FRIENDS /// HAPPINESS

Besides work, I've spent so much of the last couple of weeks hanging out with friends, hardly attending any events, which was really awesome. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love social events and they give me so much life. But every now and then, I take time out and spend more energy just hanging out, and I did a lot of that, a lot of it at my  friend Yang's dim sum bar, Beijing Opera, as I'm sure you can see by the number of pics that I shot there, most of which I shot at Max Mogale's Behind You exhibition opening. The pics are still up by the way if you make it to Beijing Opera.

All this hanging around my friends and their friends led to this corny post celebrating moments amongst friends, and happiness in general. Thought I'd post before the week begins, before I jump back into the event vibes, which I'll be doing this week.

AND THEN THERE'S OTHER PICS THAT HAVE BEEN SITTING TOO LONG ON MY COMPUTER WAITING TO BE PUBLISHED.

DESIGN IS THE DISCIPLINE TO ART /// ATHI-PATRA RUGA INTERVIEW AND TALK AT DESIGN INDABA

Athi-Patra Ruga: Design is the discipline to art from Design Indaba on Vimeo.

As y'all know, i don't mess around when it comes to family business. Cheerleader no. 1. So check this video of boo giving a presentation at Design Indaba earlier this year. Obviously I'm more than a little biased, but i think the video is fucking amazing, and it lets us into his headspace and his process in such a cool way. Basically a must-watch! Enjoy!
