LETTERS FROM NATANIËL /// A MOST RANDOM POST

I receive quite a few press releases and other brand info emails in my inbox, probably not as much as other bloggers and traditional media people. I say that because I generally ask people to take me off their lists because I don’t necessarily do product features or use the images and text they send me. As we all know, I’m a self-serving doos who publishes only my own pics and text. So if you are reading this and you were thinking of sending me a press release about some product, hold on to that thought, like for life, like til death do you part.

However, I do have a little indulgence, a little favourite, my monthly letters from Nataniël. Okay, they’re press releases from his pr team, obvs, but I ‘d much rather think of them as letters from the man, the enigma, himself, afterall the invites always say “rsvp to me, Nataniël at nataniel@dienatanieltafel.co.za”.

I like to imagine Nat in all his glory, with make up as thick as a layer of icing he might put on a cake, getting home after a day’s hard work of trying to find Suid Afrika’s beste boerewors. He changes into his floral Kimono, and suddenly, he shouts to himself, in that hoarse boere-seun-meets-Liza-Minelli voice we’ve come to love,  “Ag jirre vok, I forgot to write a little letter to Mali to update him on the latest happenings in my life, kak maan, wat sal hy dink?”, and he’d whip out his laptop, I magine it would be red, or rose pink, to match the corsage he was wearing on his suit on the show this past weekend.

Met ‘n glasie rooiwyn in hand, he would start as he always does, “Dear Malibongwe” , he always uses my full name, “Come and be part of the exclusive and private preview of the 2nd & 3rd season of my fabulous TV show”. The above is an actual quote from a letter he sent in April, sadly I couldn’t make it. I mean, the event wasn’t just private or exclusive, it was both, kan jy fokken imagine? I have no doubt that I missed out.

But it’s not all about previews and TV with Nat, sometimes he sends me recipes, like die  spek-en-eierpaste he sent me last week, ag maan dankie my skat, I’ll get onto it as soon as I can google translate it. By the way Nat my skat, I’ve noticed that lately your letters only come in Afrikaans, not in English as well like they used to. Alas, my Afrikaans is baie swak, can we get back to onse Engels letters?

THURS AT BLANK PROJECTS GALLERY FOR NICO KRIJNO AND KERRY CHALONER EXHIBITION OPENING

As per the title, tonight i went to check out Nico and Kerry's opening at Blank, and of course ended up at the usual questionable establishments afterwards. awesome night all round, i am always filled with pride when I go to check out a friends' work, coz it's not like a random vibe. These are people whose work I've been watching for a bit, and it's great to see them develop it further and further. So thank you for tonight guys and well fucking done.

On another note, i wanna apologize to them skatties who enjoy the writing on this blog because I haven't been doing much of that. I don't really have a decent excuse except maybe that thanks to the blog I now write for magazines as a day job. I have a rather limited vocab so by the time I get home and start working on blog  posts I can't think of anything entertaining to write, and writing just to be writing can easily result in boring kak. I don't know about you but I hate being bored online. Of course i will always write when i think i have something to say that's worth your time, or when i am really drunk and sorta think I'm clever and funny. For now though, bear with me and enjoy the images you like and quietly hate the ones you don't like.

BRIEFLY, SLOWLY, THROUGH FIRST THURSDAY

In case you didn’t know, First Thursdays take place on the first Thurs of every month in Cape Town. Several galleries and shops within the city bowl stay open till 21h00, 13 in total, and they’re within what feels like a 1km radius from each other. It started at the beginning of the year. As an extra incentive for thirsty skatties, most shops and galleries offer wine, for free, Thirsty Thurdays? So you get to sashay around the city looking at art and beautiful, sometimes out of price range designer things, whilst filling up on conversation and wine. I enjoyed it so much I practically kept my camera tucked away most of the night and just got into that I love this city vibe, you know, with that smug Capetonian face.

& SO THE WINTER PARTY SEASON CONTINUES // TUES WITH MISSIBABA, ASPASIA KARRAS, KIRSTEN GOSS AND GARY COTTERELL

As you might have noticed from my previous post, the winter party season is in full swing. Fuck staying at home, that shit's for the birds, and the breeders. Those of us are as yet not burdened with little people spent the night at Missibaba and Kirsten Goss celebrating their 1st year birthday of their shared shop space on Bree street. But that's not all. The party which eventually moved on to the dancefloor next door at Orphanage, was hosted in collaboration with Marie Claire's Aspasia Karras and Wanted's Gary Cotterell, who were launching a mystery batch of an award winning MCC bubbly, which they sourced. I say mystery because the details of where it's from, what the name is, will only be revealed once the first batch of 1000 bottles have been sold, then Aspasia and Gary will move on to the next batch. Want one? they come at R90/bottle or R1080 for a case. email: popeventssa@gmail.com.

P.S. for all the parents who dearly love their kids, please don't feel pressured to comment about how your kids are not a burden.
