THURSDAY EVENING IN 2 PARTS /// MISSIBABA SS '11 LAUNCH & LATER AT ANELISA MANGCU'S EXHIBITION OPENING

PART 1: MISSIBABA

PART 2: ANELISA MANGCU

I metioned on one of my previous posts that i was terribly exhausted (read hungover) on Thursday after partying it up in Jozi on Wednesday night, so i won't go on about that again. But on Thursday evening I had to go and check out the Missibaba launch because well... i am a total fan. I've said before that I really do love the things Chloe Townsend can do with leather and i am also fascinated by the rise and rise of her label. The only downer was that being there reminded me of lost my Missibaba visor, all because i was such a drunken mess at the AFI fashion week afterparty, and it doesn't seem like she makes them anymore. I hope whoever has it enjoys it, and then grows a terrible rash on their forehead that stays for a lifetime. Actually i take that back, bad karma and all, or maybe not, whatever. Anyway, I absolutely love her work, i'm not gonna say much about the range i think the pics speak for themselves.

Later that evening i also just had to battle through my 'exhaustion' to go and check out the opening of Anelisa Mangcu's (in the yellow skirt) exhibition 'The Moments Amidst the Chaos' at Rococo Studio Gallery. At a 131 days before this opening, Anelisa started a blog called 131 days to track document her journey as she prepared for the exhibition. I follow her blog and i have been looking forward to the day, so i really couldn't let bad alcohol choices from the previous evening get in the way and thank gawd i went. Just to make ya extra jealous she is only 19. Congrats Anelisa, looking forward to your future. Check out her blog to learn more about her and also check out this feature Elle blog did on/with her recently.   Enjoy the pics skattie, while i recover from the exhaustion brought on by last night's choices

MORE PIX FROM THE PRIX

Firstly I must give a big thanks and props to the people at Marie Claire for putting together such an awesome evening. It was absolutely fucking fantastic skattie. And at the risk of sounding like i am kissing ass i must also commend Aspasia Karras, Sharon Becker and their team for really transforming the image of the Marie Claire publication locally. I think anyone who keeps up with the progress (and sometimes regress) of magazines locally will agree and give props. And once i met them understood why. I don't know Aspasia and Sharon very well at all, but i know some of the company they keep much better, and they are people i think of as progressive , people who are discovering previously unidentified gaps in the South African cultural landscape, and if people can be judged by the company they keep then it is no surprise that AK and SB are also interesting people doing some very interesting things on the SA fashion landscape.

Of course Marie Claire did just present me with an award so you'd be forgiven for thinking that i'm merely singing for my dinner. If i was reading someone else's post and it read like this i'd probably think the exact same, but whatever.

I had an awesome  night and one particularly groupie moment. I'm a big fan of Anele (the 3 pics at the top) the deejay from 5fm and she was the MC for the night, i love the woman. So i lost all self-control and i went stalker on her for a part of the night, eventually hitting twitter to declare my undying adoration. Such a graceful one though that one, so she was cool about it, and it was kind of nice to get in touch with my inner groupie, i'm such a sucker for really nice people with a great sense of humour. Other than that we partied well into the night and i got to hang out with some old friends and some new ones. It's been a great week so far, the only downer was that i missed the Bryan Boy do in CT because i had to be at work for a key meeting all of Friday. Sad about that, looked like so much fun on twitter.
