Last night I went to Michaelis Galleries at Hiddingh campus to check out my friend Jody Paulsen's body of work for his Fine Art Master's. I actually had decided that I wasn't going to take my camera because I was a bit tired and I felt like just enjoying a night out and enjoying my friend's work without feeling like I was on the lookout for stuff to snap. Big fucking mistake! Within a couple of minutes after I stepped into the gallery I stepped back out into my car and went straight home to fetch my camera, this shit was just too yummy and I had to record and share. All this work by the way is done in felt, little pieces of felt cut and perfectly placed. My camera skills really don't do it justice, as a bit of texture gets lost in the pics. Unfortunately this exhibition was a one night only event so i can't even send you back to have a look. Soz. By the way, a couple of months ago Jody also collaborated on a range of prints with Keith Henning for his label Adriaan Kuiters, I paid them a studio visit when they were preparing for the show, which you can read about here. Enjoy. and motherfucking well done Jody.

As some of you might know, for the last few months I've been part of the judging panel for the Elle Rising Star Design Awards. Of course it's been an amazing experience, not only because of the opportunity to debate and exchange ideas about the future of our industry with the rest of the judging panel, but also because it was a chance to be exposed to and for a brief time be part of the journey that the finalists went through, and exchange ideas with them. I've always said my favourite fashion talent is always the young talent, for numerous reasons, and last night was a beautiful showcase of those reasons. Anyway, enjoy the pics and the highlights from the finalist's ranges. For now I gotta run, I'm meeting up with the winner Nicholas Coutts to do a likkle video interview, which I'll post up next week. Enjoy.
p.s. I must give props to Deon Redman who was responsible for the production last night, it was fucking Amaze! Well fucking done!
THE WINNER: NICHOLAS COUTTS
JACQUELINE LE GRANGE
LAST YEAR'S WINNER JANE ELIZABETH KOTZE (2012)
This dress is everything!!!! That pattern you see in front is all made up of handsewn inserts. Not printed, not applique'd, handsewn, in different fabrics!
